Negative Pressure Heat Loss

heat loss

This new home has a finished basement. The trunk line is enclosed in a drywall chase. The chase is open to the crawl-space.

It appears that the drywall installer did not cut out the hole for a heat supply for the basement. The heated air is now being wasted in a chase which ends up going to the unconditioned area of the crawlspace.  As the air is lost from the house, exterior cold air is drawn in through cracks and voids.

Another problem with this house is a lack of air flow from the floor 2 heat registers. This construction error is certainly not helping that situation
